Stacy Garcia's Color of the Month: Shadow Blue

Shadow Blue is a mid-tone oceanic blue green, the color that one would see when traveling over a body of water. This deep, mysterious and muted shade of a brighter teal blue has more vibrancy than the usual navy. This shade also suits a military look.

On Trend Today with Lanark's Kathy Wisniski: Surrealism

I first started noticing the Surrealism trend in 2008 when Etro created a beautiful ad reminiscent of the painting, "The Snake Charmer", by Henri Rousseau. Although the painting is more Avant-Garde than Surrealistic, the ad shows that designers were leading us into more of a dream scape world in their designs. (The landscape for the ad was created from photos of broccoli and celery stalks.) From these kind of photo realistic images and highly rendered large bold shapes to distorted placement of form vs function, designers have been going out on the edge to deliver something new and creative. The resulting designs are fun, modern and beautiful at the same time. Name That Acousticord Goat!

Source One's "Acousticord Goat" is in desperate need of a name and needs your help! Source One is having a "Name That Goat" contest to promote the brand's latest environmental product, Source One Acousticord, which is made of 80% goat hair. The individual who submits the winning name will win a selection of the world's finest goat cheese and a real live goat will be donated in their name to a family in a third-world country.

METROCON Expo & Conference

MetroCon 2010, otherwise known as the NeoCon of Texas, wrapped up this past Friday, September 14, in Dallas, Texas at Dallas Market Hall. Our booth showcased a wide variety of exciting new introductions from our various product lines and the show gave us a chance to say hello to many of TRI-KES' loyal customers, as well as a few new faces, from around the states of Texas and Oklahoma.

The show had a great turnout and was attended by a wide variety of customers from many different aspects of design, including architects, property managers, hospitality, retail, corporate and store planning designers. Thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by the booth to see the great new products!

Second-Look Retrieval Reaches Milestone

During the first half of 2010, over 100,000 pounds of post-consumer vinyl wallcovering was reclaimed through the Second-Look® wallcovering reclamation program. At this point, Second-Look is close to reaching almost half a million pounds of reclaimed wallcovering since the start of the program. That's a lot of material that has been saved from the landfills. With this material, we have introduced several new products this year that come standard with Second-Look recycled content (minimum 20% total), including our newest release from Versa, Tessitura (click here to see if you have Versa available in your area). Half a million pounds of wallcovering recycled may seem like a lot, but we don't want to stop there. We are asking for your help in working with us to recycle even MORE vinyl wallcovering. Send TRI-KES back memo samples, yard samples, material from renovation projects, etc. We have boxes available for your use, simply contact us for more information. A consistent stream of material to recycle is crucial to our ability to release even more patterns that come standard with Second-Look recycled content.

Introducing Our Newest Studio Source Patterns ~ Cha-Ching & Festa

We just released two stunning patterns, Cha-Ching and Festa, from our York Studio Source collection. Cha-Ching is inspired by a retro-70's beaded curtain and has the look of wavy strands of pearlescent glass beads. This pattern may look familiar to you, as it is a Type II vinyl interpretation of one of our Source One Specialty items, Carmen, which creates the same design out of real glass beads. Festa is a sophisticated, multicolor pattern that creates a nice, textural stria effect. The use of metallic inks in some of the colorways adds additional interest to this design.

Interior Illusion’s Piazza Installation

Dino Raimondi, a designer with Interior Illusions in Palm Springs, California, recently sent us this photo (courtesy of Goli Nagdali) of an installation he did for a high end private residence in the Palm Springs area. The feature wall behind the bed displays one of our Source One Specialty patterns, Piazza (SPA-02), which is a beautiful and bold geometric design made out of fine grains of sand.

NEWH Denver Regional Tradeshow

The Denver Chapter of the NEWH held their first ever regional tradeshow this past Tuesday, July 27th at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center.

Designers from the Denver metro area, as well as the surrounding areas and mountain communities, turned out in force to support the show. We had the privilege of spending time with many Principals and Designers from many hospitality firms as well as FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) companies.

Abby Chudy with Stacy Garcia assisted in the efforts to present the latest from Stacy Garcia Fabrics. The forthcoming Plush Solids Collection received rave reviews and will debut later this year. In addition to this collection, we were able to highlight many new wallcovering introductions, soon to be released.

The show concluded with a happy hour event which allowed for some additional networking time for all who attended. This first ever regional show was a big hit and we were extremely happy to see such strong support from the Colorado Design Community.

The popularity of green is no surprise as it reflects on environmental trends and concern for the economy, but the greens that are thriving are softer, tinted greens. A perfect refresh, mint green relaxes mentally, as well as physically, and offers a sense of renewal. Pair with muted metallics, deep woods and iron ores to add a bit of weight. This color becomes mind's place to rest when used in conjunction with more saturated hues.
