TRI-KES is First to Distribute NSF/ANSI 342 Silver Rated Sustainable Productby  TRI-KES

August 28, 2013 |

TRI-KES is excited to announce that it is the first distributor worldwide to offer silver rated certified products through Symphony and Tower, as well as some Lanark and Source One Exclusive products, under the NSF American National Standard for Sustainable Wallcoverings – NSF/ANSI 342, a certification issued by NSF International.

“TRI-KES is honored to offer the industry the first silver rated NSF 342 certified product to market,” said Ken Salyer Jr., president of TRI-KES, “We are committed to working closely with manufacturing partners, such as J. Josephson, manufacturer of Symphony, Lanark and Tower Wallcovering with whom we were able to achieve silver rated product. When a company has as many reputable partners as we do, much of what we do is the result of team collaboration.”

NSF/ANSI 342 is the first standard of its kind that requires both a qualified distributor and manufacturer to certify product. The products must meet criteria in six key areas including product design, product manufacturing, long-term value, end-of-life management, corporate governance and innovation to receive certification under this standard. Depending on total points earned, a product is certified at one of the following levels: Compliant, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Audits are performed annually to requalify.

TRI-KES was integral in the NSF Joint Committee on Wallcoverings that developed the sustainable wallcoverings standard. The committee includes members of the U.S. Green Building Council, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, universities and other interested parties, as well as manufacturers and distributors within the wallcovering industry.  The NSF/ANSI 342 standard was developed through the National Center for Sustainability Standards, which was founded by NSF to develop national standards and protocols for measuring sustainability attributes and conformity assessment programs to help verify sustainability claims. The Center is helping to eliminate greenwashing by bringing transparency and credibility to the sustainability marketplace.

NSF/ANSI 342 establishes transparency within product manufacturing and distribution so the individual attributes that LEED and Green Globes seek to identify in products can easily be found for products that are certified under NSF/ANSI 342. Additionally, the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG), a federal green building standard, recognizes NSF/ANSI 342 as part of their standard.

TRI-KES became the first NSF/ANSI 342 qualified distributor worldwide in December of 2011. At the same time, TRI-KES also achieved full accreditation for the International Organization for Standardization ISO 14001 for its Environmental Management System (EMS).
